Tadpoles

Story Behind The Song

The song was about a girl, mostly. But it's also about being free, and not caring about anything but the better of yourself and the ones you adore. I remember getting stoned and listening to old Beach Boys records. It was then that I wrote some the verses. I remember putting the chorus and the hook together once the music was completed. The tempo-change at the end was added at the last minute...a kind of joke drum-track that turned into a brilliant mistake.

Song Description

The song is very fun; the feedback has been outrageous about the vocal harmonies in the hook, and the rap-like quality of the vocals. It's funky, and it's emotional at the same time.

Lyrics

Spend my days in rhythm, won't you fill my glass from half-empty
This winter's got me cold so lady, won't you snuggle closer to me?
And this world is full of people who will set you up to knock you down
I throw in "Eat A Peach" to keep the volume of their voices down

So lemme get a split-cut Dutchie and that zoom-zoom-zoom
Have us flyin far above the world too soon
Tell that sexy lady I aint never been in love
And that those jeans fit her like a glove
You can find me tossin' balls up in the red cup, party
Comm Sense up in the player, girls dance for the Bacardi, honey
Let's walk the train tracks all the way down
Buzzin, drunken help you off of the ground
CHORUS:
Singin' baby aint this life so sweet?
Counting little tadpoles in this creek
We're free by golly, we're blazin' like we're Marley
Come and find me, nevermind the way I'm illin, chillin jolly
Cuz I'm just in my own little world

I said "Grab your mandolin so we can jam out in the meadow again"
And drown in conversation with a stranger like it's some kind of trend
Don't get deep with women in your town unless you know that it's true
Why's your heart so locked-up girl, I've been tryin different words out on you

Carryin a heavy load, still got a heart of gold
Hope to make you see it somewhere down all the road
A lightyear or two from present puzzles stays, so follow me, son
Follow me, son, take my hand, son
Don't want wrong minds taking you for ransom
Come through the door ahead and let your worries crumble

CHORUS

Counting little tadpoles in this creek...
We're free by golly // we're blazin like we're Marley
Come and find me // nevermind the way i'm illin, chillin jolly
Cuz I'm just in my own little world
