Song Description

Vincent came to visit me and painted me in yellow, but my friends didn't like the picture, and my boyfriend was jealous. We painted and grew a pretty lemon tree. Vincent couldn't sleep and came down to feed my cat, and outside there millions of stars shining, we went outside and painted hundreds of them, sad when it grew light. Vincent had to go because Gaugin was coming to stay. I missed him, but still had our pretty lemon tree. The chorus is about Vincent colouring in our hopes and dreams, and that, sometimes, when we sin, we do not mean to.

Story Behind the Song

I dreamed I was in Vincen Van Gogh's place and time, and that he was my friend and came to visit me. He painted me in yellow.

Lyrics

Vincent came to me today
painted me in yellow,
but it sent my friends away
especially my fellow.

We grew a pretty lemon tree,
so ripe for him, lime green to me,
citrus shades were runningng free
when I was painted yellow.
Chorus
Vincent, oh Vincent,
colour in our hopes and dreams,
Vincent, oh Vincent,
when we sin, we do not mean...to.

Vincent couldn't sleep it seems,
got up and fed my cat,
little pilchards in a dish,
she ate them and looked fat.

The night was full of stars so bright
that lit the streets in white,
we painted hundreds in delight
were sad when it grew light.

Chorus
Vincent, oh Vincent,
colour in our hopes and dreams,
Vincent, oh Vincent,
when we sin, we do not mean...to. Oh Vincent, oh Vincent,

Then he said he had to go
Gaugin might come to stay,
would paint a picture of a bed
just for his friend next day

I missed our friendship straight away,
but had our lemon tree,
will always be so ripe for him
and still lime green to me

Chorus
Vincent, oh Vincent,
colour in our hopes and dreams,
Vincent, oh Vincent,
when we sin, we do not mean...to.
Oh Vincent...Oh Vincent...
