It Won't Be Me Who Says Goodbye

Story Behind The Song

Originally I was looking for a similar style to some of the slower songs of the Eagles, Jackson Brown, Crosby Stills, genre but was having to cope with very husky vocals due to a throat condition. Now about one year later I am delighted to be able to update the song with a new vocal, a great improvement on the original.

Verse 1
All the time that I have known you,
with all that life has thrown you
You've never dodged the truth, or told me lies along the way
But now I asked you where you've been love, is it him that you have seen love
You turned away from me, you don't have the words to say

Chorus 1.
I'll stand my ground - not going to play your part
Won't make it easy for you - OK if that breaks your heart
You can do the talking, don't have to look me in the eye

I'll stand my ground - you won't see me walk off in the night
No not this time - I cannot always make things right my darling
If you want the other guy,
It won't be me who says goodbye

Verse 2
He was my friend, we used to drink beer
But for some time now, he hasn't been here
Should have put 2 and 2 together, but now it's clear to see
When we were younger he used to talk about you, now it looks like I'm gonna be without you
So what's gotta be said tonight, you're not going to hear it from me

Chorus 2.
I'll stand my ground - not going to play your part
Won't make it easy for you - ok if that breaks your heart
You can do the talking, don't have to look me in the eye

I'll stand my ground - you won't see me walk off in the night
No not this time - I cannot always make things right my darling
If you want the other guy
It won't be me who says goodbye

It won't be me who says goodbye

Beautiful, reflective song. Great instrumentation and vocal, as usual. I think your voice has a cool sound.

Hi Bob, first thing to say is I love the title! (But I know what you mean about shorter titles). It got my attention immediately. i love the story, the arrangement and instrumentation. Can't think of much to suggest here. However, if I am being picky I would say that the title doesn't come out often enough in the song. Three times only if I counted correctly. I think 'I stand my ground' comes out more which may leave some people to think that is the title. I would have put the title in at the end of the first chorus for example (after don't have to look me in the eye). But overall, great song and arrangement. Well done!

Very good Country Toon Bob, I loved the guitar riffs and the vocals

This is a Very Good tune!! I believe that a Pro Vocalist at the Lead vocal would make this tune Shine even more! That's a simple Fix!!
What's funny is, in the right place musically, the tune could work just perfectly as is!!! It's all a Crap Shoot!!
Again, really Nice Song!!
Stay Safe.....
The Corey's............
Hope I helped in some way???
Pop-Country for the genre....

Love the mix and the song. Top notch instrumental arrangement and phrasing. All 5's, except a 4 (the hoarseness). Kinda cool, though! Great work, Bob.

A nice song good hook and good vocal

This song definitely evokes the style and feel of the best of the Eagles work. That said, this song needs a killer lead vocal. There are some arrangement things that could probably be tweaked to get the listeners attention a little better. The guitars sound great. The lack of a real solid foundation with bass and drums is definitely a deterrent in the overall mix. I don't know how much potential a song like this has in the current country market, but I dig this kind of stuff a lot. It Harkins to a time when bands/songwriters really thought about writing a good song as opposed to writing a hit song. Keep working on this one.
