Story Behind The Song
One day Kenneth dropped by the house. He saw my guitar, picked it up and played what became the verses. I wrote the choruses while we sat on my deck. I think his original inspiration came while he was broke down and waiting on a tow truck in Beaumont.

Lyrics
Tore Down In Texas
Billy Eli, Kenneth Welch copyright 2006
Well I got tore down in Texas west of that Louisiana line
I got tore down in Texas west of that Louisiana line
I got a call into my baby, and I said
Honey can you make it here on time
Chorus
Well I?m stuck here by the river and this road it sure is rough
I?ve got to be in Dallas before the sun comes up
And I ain?t holding nothing but my suitcase and my name
Houston, Dallas, San Antone, it all seems the same
If you don?t believe what happened, you won?t be the only one
If you don?t believe what happened, you won?t be the only one
I ain?t got no whiskey in my bottle
But I?ve still got bullets in my gun
Chorus (twice)
Well I got tore down in Texas west of that Louisiana line
I got tore down in Texas west of that Louisiana line
I got a call into my baby, and I said
Honey can you make it here on time
I got a call into my baby, and I said
Honey can you make it here on time
I got a call into my baby, and I said
Honey can you make it here on time
