The Creature

Story Behind The Song

This is the song that I tell everyone took less time to write than it does to play. This is esentially true, since I wrote the basic song in under 5 minutes (including the intro and bridge sections). Of course, I didn't write the words in the same session, so it's mostly true, but not entirely. Probably the favorite song live of my core fan base. When I used to perform this song on stage, I would wear a mask with these glowing red L.E.D. lights in the eyes. To make things even more interesting, I wired up a home-made wireless receiver unit that would take a relay output from my guitar processor to switch them on/off remotely using my MIDI footswitch. Oh, and the fog machine and black full-length cape would add something to the effect also :)

Lyrics

intro:
[the seven priests sing the chant of the beastly revival...]

main theme:

There's a dangerous stranger lurking in the night...
I can see his bloodshot eyes, there, glowing in the moonlight...
Imagined streetlights outline shadows in your dreams...
The shadows turn to nightmares, awakening you screaming!

Another moonlit evening finds you lying awake (you're lying awake!)...
Your nightmares so terrifying, it's more than you can take...
Avoiding the slumber which will certainly pull you under....
The creature's just waiting to rip you asunder!

Don't drop your guard tonight, it could be your last mistake!
The creature's lurking just inside, you'd better stay awake!

bridge:

There's nothing now between you and the beast....
The creature is stirring, soon now he'll be...
Knocking at the front door of your reality....
Bad dreams are not just a mystery, but part of the beast...
That lives within you....
That lives within me....

outro:

The creature is near now, I can feel the tension!
I can feel the fear within, he'll soon be taking over!
The nightmare is real!
You and I, we haven't a chance!
The beast awakens soon within us!
Dance his wicked dance!
