Story Behind The Song
I was a sophomore in college in December 1978, when I composed 'Long, Long Ago.' Earlier in the year, I'd broken up with a fellow music major who I really loved but our relationship wasn't meant to be. I dedicated this song to him -- even though it originally began as a class assignment. His comment at the time was "send it to Barbra" -- meaning Barbra Streisand. :-) Sadly, my friend passed away last year from cancer at the age of 43, leaving behind a wife and young son. The lyrics of 'Long, Long Ago' are now particularly poignant for me.
