Song Description

"Still Here Waiting" explores the balance between both sides of an evolving relationship, and the struggle of reasoning through the complexity of emotions evoked by the situation. In the verses, the narrator processes the upside and downside that he knows and has experienced with his lover, while at the same time trying to embrace the relationship's unknown potential, filled with hope and doubt, excitement and anxiety, resolve and insecurity. In the chorus, the narrator can make two choices ? either walk away from the situation, or be steadfast in standing by his or her loved one. While the relationship evokes a myriad of emotions, the narrator chooses the latter option, proclaiming, "Tonight is gonna be forever / tonight, I'm standing here with arms open wide," embracing the situation rather than running from it. The narrator arrives at a moment of anticipation, "Tonight I'm holding my breath," while at the same time noticing his lover's resolve in her own struggles, "while you're holding your own" ? and ends by reinforcing his supportive demeanor, "I'm here waiting for you." The bridge overtly amplifies the narrator's mental pacing back-and-forth, as alluded to in the verses, and reintroduces the chorus with a subdued, reflective take on the first three lines, before once again finding solid ground in his resolve to stay patient and supportive of his lover through her struggles and period of self-discovery. The narrator cements his final resolve in the last two lines of the song, stating with a sense of levity, "Tomorrow's just another day / and I'm still here waiting for you." Please note that in this explanation, the narrator is referred to as "he" but in the lyrics, the narrator is intentionally left gender-neutral to remain open for the listener's interpretation and application to his or her own situation.

Lyrics

Sometimes I?m looking over my shoulder
Sometimes I just don?t know what to do
Sometimes I feel we're getting much closer
Just being here alone with you... I see that?

Tonight is gonna be forever
Tonight I?m standing here with arms open wide
Tonight I?m holding my breath while you?re holding your own
I?m here waiting for you

Sometimes I?m pacing the sidewalk
Sometimes I?m staring into the deep blue sea
Sometimes being myself just isn?t
Enough to make you smile? or believe that?

Tonight is gonna be forever
Tonight I?m standing here with arms open wide
Tonight I?m holding my breath while you?re holding your own
I?m here waiting for you

You know, I just don?t know how far to go
You know, I just don?t know what to make of this
You know, if seeing is believing
Then I should know better than to think that?

Tonight is gonna be forever
Tonight I?m standing here with arms open wide
Tonight I?m holding my breath while you?re holding your own? yeah?

Tonight is gonna be forever
Tonight I?m standing here with arms open wide
Tonight I?m holding my breath while you?re holding your own
I?m here waiting for you

?Cause tomorrow?s just another day
And I?m still here waiting for you
