Echo (Part 2)

Song Description

Based on the story of Narcissus and Echo from greek mythology. Narcissus loved himself and spent all of his time staring at his reflection in the water. Echo could not speak for herself and could only repeat what others said. Echo loved Narcissus but obviously her love could never be returned. This song explores the Narcissism involved in being an artist and the dangers of becoming too self-absorbed when others begin to idolise you.

Lyrics

Heard by the girl with the musical voice
She echoes each word that I speak
Her songs are gloomy and self-important
It's clear that she learns them from me
And other voices may join her echo
To serenade my self-esteem
And I'll just lean closer towards the water
With each song they sing back at me
