Hurricane

Story Behind The Song

Working with an American Indian Shaman for several years brought me close to the heartbeat of Mother Earth. When I first discovered the pulsating rhythms and chords of this song on my guitar, the hair stood up on the back of my neck. I felt the potential power of what could come, if I wrote this song well. If I can do anything as a songwriter on this Earth, it is to help people become aware of our need to unite and learn to live SUSTAINABLY, and live with RESPECT of the Earth. It is something that seems so OBVIOUS to me, a cause I feel passionately about. My heart bleeds with the Earth. While writing the song, I also felt the need to treat the listener with respect, to gently take them to a place lyrically where they could become a part of the solution, and see themself as an empowered human being who could do something to help. The rhythm of the guitar communicates the urgency with which I believe we need to act. When someone in the audience walks up to me after hearing that song and says "I feel the need to do something to help", I know I have done my job - that is what this song is about :-)

HURRICANE © 2010 Beck Fielding

VERSE 1
There's a storm
Out at sea
Pressure falls
It gathers speed
It's coming!! [whispered] X2

PRE-CHORUS
News reports flash on TV
Mother Earth is suffering
Acid rain
Destroys her lakes
This way of life is just insane
Causing change

CHORUS
Like a hurricane
So much change will come
Like a hurricane

VERSE 2
A golden globe
Is there for everyone
Brings a ray of hope
To show what can be undone
It's right there!! [whispered] X2

PRE-CHORUS
Trapped in a whirlwind of deceit
Wiping out her sacred trees
Dusty plains
Where forests stood
Man's greed has overruled
Causing change

CHORUS
Like a hurricane
So much change will come
Like a hurricane

BRIDGE
There's things to be done
We can harness the sun
Plant windmills like trees
Clean up the oceans
And the air that we breathe

OUTRO
Like a hurricane
We cannot trust the ones who lead
Like a hurricane
It's coming down to you and me
It's just a mile away
We cannot trust the ones who lead
Gotta do whatever it takes
It's coming down to you and me
To stop this hurricane
We cannot trust the ones who lead
To stop this hurricane
