Who Hit Annie In The Fannie (With A Flounder)

Story Behind The Song

Came home one evening and happened to hear my three year old son's grandfather herding the boy to the dinner table by saying something like "I'm gonna' hit you in the fannie with a flounder!". The next day I sat on the back porch with my son whittling the initial lyrics. Just kept trying things and watching his reaction. Kept what made him smile and chucked the rest . . .

Lyrics

Who Hit Annie In the Fannie (With A Flounder)?
c T. C. Ballister

Well I was sittin' in the playground one sunny day,
Watchin' everybody play.
When along came Crazy Dan, with a Flounder in his hand
And he hit ol' Annie in the can.

Hoo she screached and she yelled, and she let out a big cry,
And she ran back in to the school.
She said, "Teacher! Teacher come quick! Somebody done hit me a lick!
And I think it was some crazy playground fool".

Who hit Annie in the Fannie with that Flounder,
Who made that little girl cry?
Who hit Annie in the Fannie with that Flounder,
Then gave her a wink of his eye?

Now the Teacher said to Annie, "You just get on back outside and get that
Flounder out of Crazy Dan's hand.
And you whack upside the head, and then I'll send home to bed, and
You can tell him this is what I said".

Don't hit Annie in the Fannie with that Flounder,
Don't make that little girl cry.
Don't hit Annie in the Fannie with that Flounder,
And watch that little wink of your eye.

Now Annie she went creepin' sneekin' out the school house door,
And carefully she looked all around.
She walked on tippy toes, lookin' to and fro', but
Dan he just could not be found.

Well she was leaning 'round the corner with her hand up to her ear,
Just to hear what she could hear.
When from behind crept Crazy Dan, yeah, with a Flounder in his hand,
And he Bopped ol' Annie in the rear.

He hit Annie in the Fannie with that Flounder,
He made that little girl cry.
He hit Annie in the Fannie with that Flounder,
Then gave her a wink of his eye.

Whoa! Now Annie she really got mad! She was not about to be had,
And she turned around and looked ol' Dan straight in the eye.
She said, "Danny you had two licks, but I'm gettin' tired of your tricks,
And I really think its 'bout your turn to cry".

She said, "Hey! What's that over there?", and when Danny
Turned round to stare, Little Annie pulled out a flounder of her own.
Yeah she raised it way up high, and then she let it fly,
and what happened next I think you know.

She hit Danny in the Fannie with that flounder, yeah
She made that little boy cry.
She hit Danny in the fannie with that flounder, then she
Gave him a wink of her eye.

So don't hit Annie in the Fannie with the Flounder,
No, don't make that little girl cry.
Don't hit Annie in the Fannie with the Flounder,
And watch that little wink of your eye.
