Story Behind The Song
Northern was the very first, fully structured song we ever wrote. We had some help with it. An old buddy James and Seth used to go to school with, Bill Roberts, jammed out the idea with us. The song came together right after we had restructured ourselves into a cohesive unit we titled Avary. Previous to this song most of our material had been dark and often angry and/or fast. Bill helped us learn how to relax our moods and "write a happy song."

Lyrics
Trusting the wake
Of the rising day
Questions of why
The world is this gray
The message of movements
Ideas to choose
Crossing signals
But this I won't refuse
I won't refuse
So wake me up lightly
And I might go back to bed
If I decide today might be
Just lost in my head
And this is what happens
When you sing to my ear
Keeping your distance
While I write off my fears
Turning a new slate
A brand new way
Finding my answers
This room can't contain the day
The message of movements
I know what to do
Crossing signals
But this I won't refuse
I won't refuse
It's always a gamble
When you sing to my ear
Align yourself to all these notes
And write off your fear
The guitar string breaks and I am new
Just one more song until I break through
The rhythm falls and breaks in two
I'm finally finding this to be true
