Story Behind the Song

Louann tells the true story of a 78 year old Katrina survivor who spent 8 days and nights floating on top of her mattress until she was rescued. She passed the time thinking about how she would redecorate her house when she came back home.

Lyrics

When Louann was a young girl she had nothing but the clothes that she wore
She dreamed of beautiful colors, the kind you rarely see when you?re poor
And one day she decided she couldn?t stay
And that she would find a way
To have more

She got an education to heal the sick
And when she got a paycheck the money was spent
On filling up her life with things beautiful
Making her world more and more colorful
She never looked back

Louann dreams about beautiful colors
Lighting up her world all around
She sees her life bathed in a yellow glow

She bought herself a big house in New Orleans
And lived decades of a life there like she?d always dreamed
But one August morning water started coming in
And in five minutes it was up to her chin
Louann couldn?t leave

Louann dreams about beautiful colors
Lighting up her world all around
She sees her life bathed in a yellow glow

Golden orange and pale crimson
Flood the thoughts in her mind
Louann is making a plan
And puts her faith in something new

The mattress was sturdy and made of quality wood
For eight days and nights she floated the best that she could
The best she could

She watched all of her possessions wash away
And realized she didn?t need them anyway
Louann survived the wait
By making plans to redecorate
When she came back home

Louann dreams about beautiful colors
Lighting up her world all around
She sees her life bathed in a yellow glow

Golden orange and pale crimson
Flood the thoughts in her mind
Louann is making a plan
As she floats around her room
