Lyrics
WHEN YOU AND I WERE YOUNG
Mulhearn/Pronovost/Stanchfield
Verse 1
Once upon a time I remember
When the world was ten times bigger
All the family in one house
When you and I were young.
Summer days we played for hours
Daddy took the path to the tree house
Put an extra nail in each stair
?Till momma called us home.
Chorus
I remember summer days
I remember all these things
When you and I were young.
Sentimental memories
Of the way things used to be
Are calling me home.
Verse 2
Sandy suits and sunburn and tired eyes
Everybody up from the seaside
Drying off and passing the towel
And napping in the shade.
I?m recalling drive-in movies
Silly children zipped into ?footies?,
Propped on pillows high in the back
It was late, it was great!
Chorus 2
I?m recalling whispering,
Funny things we kids would say
When you and I were young.
Daddy bringing pizza home
Momma singing bedtime songs
We were the lucky ones, the lucky ones.
Bridge
And oh, whenever the seasons change like this
Childhood memories come bursting from within.
Hugs and ?hellos? or blowin? a kiss
Time so tender
Yesterday is back again.
Bridge 2
And oh, I remember the first flakes of snow
Momma would bundle us, daddy would run with us
Jumpin? as we?d go
Wasn?t it fun in the snow?
Chorus
I remember summer days
I remember all these things
When you and I were young.
Sentimental memories
Of the way things used to be
Are calling me home.
