Story Behind The Song
I got inspired to write this song thinking about my father and something he used to say: ?Marriage is a wonderful institution, but who wants to live an institution?? This comedic line drove the inspiration, and I adapted the concept into a song about love gone mad. I wanted to write a song that could be interpreted many different ways. To some it may be a cynical attack on love; To others, the desperate pleadings of a man who?s lost touch with reality. Either way, it?s a beautiful song that is quite universal in its vivid depictions of life, love and loss.
Song Description
An acoustic guitar and acoustically mic?d baritone Danelectro start the guitar theme. Quiet murmurings in the background lift the song into a driving full rock. A short guitar solo erupts transitioning into the first verse.
Here we experience for the first time the heavy staccato electric guitars backing the pensive yet pleading vocals, lamenting words of the past and fears of the present.
The chorus ascends into a sailing falsetto, backed by powerful guitars, as the truth begins to reveal itself to the storyteller.
Each verse and chorus build in complexity; both musically and lyrically. As the bridge builds and the ?Voices in my head? grow louder the final pieces of the intricate puzzle fall into place.
The ensuing guitar solo gives insight into the disturbed mental state of the afflicted storyteller, and leads us to the final verse and outro, completing the story.

Lyrics
Verse 1
My Father said "To be in love is to be institutionalized"
I thought him foolish then, but now, too late, I finally realize,
Chorus 1
Make me smile the way you do,
It?s just a symptom of how you've poisoned my mind.
Satisfy the way you do,
It?s just a symptom.
Verse 2
My friends all say that it?s a shame I've never had a real relationship.
But they can't feel my heart and how it shudders and reels when I touch your lips.
Chorus 2
Make me high the way you do,
It?s just a symptom of how you've poisoned my mind.
Mystify the way you do,
It?s just a symptom.
Verse 3
I'm finally noticing the way you're here, then leave without a sound.
And how the suffering comes in waves whenever you are not around.
Chorus 3
Make me Cry the way you do,
It's just a symptom of how you've poisoned my mind.
Terrify the way you do,
It's just delirium.
Bridge
The chorus in my head,
Keeps telling me I'm crazy.
Everything?s scattered now,
My mind is growing hazy.
And I have no defense,
A willing volunteer.
Something my father said,
Keeps ringing in my ears.
Chorus 4
Lullaby the way you do.
It's just a symptom of how you've poisoned my mind.
Say goodbye the way you do you're just a symptom
