A thousand tastes,
a thousand sounds,
a thousand sights,
pulling on the senses and promising delight.
But listen to the soul,
it only knows --
that?s not the door
that?s going to lead you to the light.

Just like a shadow-lake
across the burning sand
appears so cool and wet
but only made of sand.
The joy of sensation
tricks the undiscerning eye
and feeds the fire an everlasting lie.

Pleasures born of contact
only culminate in sorrow.
They come today with promises
and fade away tomorrow.
But if you lay your heart
before the sweetness of the Lord,
She?ll fill your cup and keep it full forevermore.

All things that have beginnings
also have an end.
Attaching to the changing world,
a heart grows old and dim
man seeks in all directions
what has always been his own,
and exchanges all his diamonds
for a bag of common stone.

Fortunate are those whose sole delight is Brahmanandam,
in the midst of joy and pain established far beyond them.
In a Brahmin in a cow
they see infinity.
Abandoning delusion,
they?re indeed forever free.

The wings of Truth
can span the darkest sky,
and the sword of self-inquiry
will cut the bonds that tie.
So listen to the soul -- it only knows:
