Story Behind The Song
I wrote this song as my newborn was in the ICU for a week. It took place in Montana adn I have a friend who named his daughter Montana. For days we watched the lines on the monitors go up and down, I thought they looked like little mountains. that's when I thought to make the rather abstract connection between a beautiful girl's name adn the beautiful mountains mixed with the uncertainty that parents of sick children encounter. She is doing fine.

Lyrics
MONTANA
Doctors say her mama's gonna be just fine
But they're worried about this baby girl of mine
Just a few hours old, already it's been a long hard road
All I can do is sit helpless worry and wonder
Watching the wavelengths of her heartbeat on the monitor
They go up and down like peaks and valleys of a Montana mountain.
Chorus:
Montana, That will be her name
Man I need her like the rivers wait for May
Pretty as a sunset over the western sky
Snow-capped peaks rising high
She's all that I dream of
Montana.
Thank the good lord she has her mama's nose
Piano player fingers and ten tiny toes
When she looks up at me with those brown eyes it takes my breath away
I've never seen so many I.V.'s and tubes
Her mama said to name her and I've been trying to
Find a name as strong as a mountain 'cause I need something to lean on.
