Something About You

Story Behind The Song

I wrote the song first as a poem after reading Anne Rice's "Pandora". It tells a tale of a curious, wanna-be participant in not just the fantasy of a brand new relationship with a stranger, but the reality of the duality of being curious--to ask the hard questions while accepting the fantasy as its worthy opponent. Who will win? Fast forward a couple of years and the song started taking shape. From the lyrical seed came the driving beat of curiosity layered with tapestries of desire--lush strings and piano, hardened into danceable alt-pop-electronic by the addition of my favorite two instruments, the acoustic and electric guitars. All the music was written on the acoustic, in keeping with my love for strong song structures that can stand firm on just the basics. I added a soft-to-harsh whisper to the way I sang the vocal to paint an evocative sonic picture of the subject matter. Late night dancing in the dark to this tune is most certainly encouraged! Feel the mystery...

Song Description

Ethereal yet beaty and accessible, mysterious dance ballad that explores the darkside of an unrequited love. There IS something about the object of the singer's affections... and she wants to know what it is--does it match her sweetest fantasy, or is it just all a wicked lure of deception?

Lyrics

VERSE 1:

The moon is full
I wasn't sleeping like you thought I'd been
Your heart is cold
And all your secrets are frozen within

PRE-CHORUS 1:

And it's a mystery that has made me realize...

CHORUS 1:

There's somethin' about you
Do I wanna know what it is?
Somethin' about you...
I need to know what gives

(TAG)

VERSE 2:

These ancient feelings
have taken me over like I've heard they could
The black lights revealing
For what so many nights has been understood

PRE-CHORUS 2:

And it's a mystery that has made me realize...

CHORUS 2:

There's somethin' about you
I wanna know what it is
Somethin' about you...
I need to know what gives...

BRIDGE:

(Now that) the blood has (been) let
And innocence has turned regret
Darling, with just this one cut
I'll cast you into oblivion, my love... NOW...

(INSTRUMENTAL SECTION)

CHORUS OUTS:

There's somethin' about you
Do I wanna know what it is?
Somethin' about your...
I need to know what gives

There's somethin' about you
Do I wanna know what it is?
Somethin' about your...
I need to know what gives

There's somethin' about you
Do I wanna know what it is?
Somethin' about your...
I need to know what gives...
