GRANDMA'S HOUSE
(© 2003 CRAIG / CASWELL / VINCENT)
Verse 1.
It's been standing here for 90 years & needs some love & care,
A coat of paint, a nail or 2, a new hinge here & there,
The old front fence has fallen down it's seen it's better days,
But there's a lifetime full of memories that time just can't erase,
There was love to spare & wisdom handed out,
At Grandma's house.
Verse 2.
The old verandah round the house is short a board or 2,
And the weeds have taken over where the climbing roses grew,
But the leadlight doors and windows have stood the test of time,
Reflecting all the colours when the morning sun would shine,
It was a place of faith & hope but never doubt
At Grandma's house.
Verse 3.
In the lounge the old piano's sitting, waiting to be played,
With every note an echo thrown from Grandma's younger days,
And Grandpa's photograph is still there hanging on the wall,
A soldier standing proudly in the uniform he wore,
It's the secret to what life is all about,
At Grandma's house
Bridge.
Grandma's house has been our anchor through the changing years,
It's seen every joy & sorrow, all our laughter & our tears,
With a prayer to give us courage & a smile still our fears,
It's the place we came to get things sorted out
Verse 4.
There was a kettle always on the stove & a sponge cake in the tin,
And a welcome smile for anyone who happened to drop in,
When she'd made a batch of scones all oven fresh & golden brown,
There'd be a kitchen full of children when the cakes were passed around
There was no-one going hungry round about
Grandma's house.
REPEAT Verse 1
It's been standing here for 90 years & needs some love & care,
A coat of paint, a nail or 2, a new hinge here and there,
The old front fence has fallen down; it's seen it's better days,
But there's a lifetime full of memories that life just can't erase,
There was love to spare & wisdom handed out,
At Grandma's house
TAG
And an honesty we couldn't live without,
At Grandma's house.
