Everybody's Gettin' Lucky tonight (except me)

Story Behind The Song

One night, while performing with the band Last Train Home, we had a particularly magical last set w/ some old Melvin and the Blue Notes songs, patsy kline and other "let's get it on" songs. I noticed that people were hooking up left and right. Fat people, ugly people. And i said to the lead singer, who was between girlfriends, "Everybody's here's gettin' lucky tonight." And he said, "Except me."

Song Description

A man notices that, as the night progresses at a bar, everyone seems to be finding a partner. The nerd, the ugly girl, squares, rubes. And he wonders why.

Lyrics

Everybody?s getting? lucky ?cept me 2000

There?s a man at the bar wearing big, thick glasses
Makin? passes at every pretty girl
If that?d been me, I?d a been shot down
But he?s walkin? round on top of the world

Maybe it?s the beer, maybe it?s the smoke
But they keep laughin? at all of his jokes
But as far as I can tell, as near as I can see
Everybody?s getting? lucky tonight except me.
Everybody?s getting? lucky tonight except me.

There?s a girl at a booth who looks kind of homely,
She?s not lonely not by far
She?s surrounded by half a dozen men
And got the attention of half of the bar

Maybe it?s the wine, maybe it?s the lights
Maybe she?s having one of those nights
But as far as I can tell, as near as I can see
Everybody?s getting lucky tonight except me.
Everybody?s getting lucky tonight except me.

BRIDGE:
Well, there?s a man over here how doesn?t have any money
but he?s got a little honey on his arm
and there?s another over there who looks a real square
but he?s taking somebody back to the farm

and there?s a man at the bar wearing big, thick glasses
makin? passes at every pretty girl
if that?d been me, I?d a been shot down
but he?s walkin? round like king of the world

maybe he?s rich or a movie star
or there?s something in the liquor they serve at this bar
but as near as I can tell, as far as I can see
everybody?s getting? lucky tonight except me
maybe he?s rich or a movie star
or there?s something in the liquor they serve at this bar
but as near as I can tell, as far as I can see
everybody?s getting? lucky tonight except me
but as near as I can tell, as far as I can see
everybody?s getting? lucky tonight except me
