Deliver Us

Story Behind The Song

I was thinking back to the days of the civil rights era when Black people came together and worked to gether for the good of us all. Then I thought about the violent conditions of today and decided that only God can change the conditions of so many peoples hearts. So I wrote "Deliver Us" as a call to a higher power for intervention and change.

Lyrics

Deliver Us, Father won't you please take control
Deliver Us, Fill our hearts with love make us whole
Deliver Us, Father won't you please touch our souls
Deliver Us, Father won't you please redeem us

We came across the sea together. 400 years we lived as slaves
We dreamed of days when things would be better, When freedom for all could be claimed
Now we walk the streets afraid of each other, because of crime and drugs and gangs
Now we don't take time to care for each other, cause dog eat dog became our shame
So I'm calling on you lord Please

Deliver Us, Father won't you please take control
Deliver Us, Fill our hearts with love make us whole
Deliver Us, Father won't you please touch our souls
Deliver Us, Father won't you please redeem us

The murder rate is getting higher, the drop out rate is through the roof
So many souls consumed by fire, and someone needs to tell the truth
Cause we're becoming our own worst enemy, For money we'll do anything
And we're addicted to material things, The cars, high fashion and the bling
And I calling on you Lord

Deliver Us, Father won't you please take control
Deliver Us, Fill our hearts with love make us whole
Deliver Us, Father won't you please touch our souls
Deliver Us, Father won't you please redeem us

Everyday on the news its the same, Brothas get'n killed on the streets for the money thang
Rolling through the hood in the cars spinning bling, ready to kill for the money and the gang bang
Whatever happened to the days of respect, when Blacks stuck together and we had each others backs
Whatever happened to the nod and the dap, Now we pass each other and don't even look back
We use to be tight and we kept it so real, But now were quick to fight and so ready to kill
I never thought the day would come death would rule the land, I never thought that I would live in fear of a Black man
So Lord I'm calling out sincerely Lord I pray, deliver us from evil and change our hearts today
We need your intervention, we need your ray of hope, We need your words to guide us through, We need your love to cope

Deliver Us, Father won't you please take control
Deliver Us, Fill our hearts with love make us whole
Deliver Us, Father won't you please touch our souls
Deliver Us, Father won't you please redeem us
