Lyrics

My Hometown Again

Let me tell you all a story ?bout hitching a ride
Highway ninety seven eastern Cascade side. Out of California bound through Oregon
On my way back to Washington when a big Cadillac pull off the side
An Old man got out and asked if I?d drive then he got in the back and opened a beer
I got in the front and put it in gear

CHORUS: He said my home has been where my dreams have led
I got miles and miles running through my head
But I came from the mountains of Washington
Watching the Columbia River run
I haven?t been back since way back then
Just like to see my hometown again

So we drove all day and into the night, he told me stories about his life
The war the woman the whiskey and then, he told me all of those stories again
Then he fell asleep with his hat pulled low, I kept driving north turned on the radio
In the morning light as the sun did rise, I saw the Cascade Mountains on the rise
And I thought about these words of his as I crossed the Columbia River Bridge

CHORUS:

Well I stopped for some coffee and I brought him a cup, got in the back tried to wake him up. But he was cold and stiff I found, he must have died before we hit town
I thought about what I should do, I cleaned out my stuff and left no clues
?cept a note I put in his hat said this should be his epitaph?

Chorus:
