ERLINE

Story Behind The Song

Back in the day before LGBT rights and Rainbow coalitions there were still transgender people but without the support and acceptance there is today. I became friends with someone who was going through the quandary of should she or shouldn't he go through this then irreversible operation. We joked that she would have monumental tits like the Twin towers and once inserted they could not be torn down...as our great World Trade Center Towers but that's another story for another day. The song deals with the courage it took Erly from the South to become Erline from NYC...she did realize her dream but years later I was informed that she had passed away from AIDS and I wrote ERLINE as a tribute and a goodbye. I wrote it as a dance composition because Erly loved to dance and she would have loved ERLINE...I'm sure of it.

Lyrics

ERLINE
I Wake up Erly in the morning, fake the motions of the day
Wait to darkness comes to place my veil and I go out and play
Yeah, this daily syndrome got me to the point where I can't breathe
Locked inside must be the answer one I'll learn to make me free
Gonna Samba do some Salsa sweat my sins and watch them sway
I will feel the music throbbing 'till it helps me clear the way
Erline...I hear the shouts
They scream...and drown my doubts
Work to shed this bloated skin I'm in, this imperfect body shows
All the wounds and scars try to cosmetize but my heart just tells me no
Life could hold such inner beauty, twin erected to the skies
Should they tear you down, try to take your crown, you just wave your banner high
Gonna Mambo and Merengue blend some Hip-Hop till it flows
I will lose my inhibitions state my case until they know
Erline...I hear the shouts
They scream...and drown my doubts
I'm not trying to change the system or make universal laws
Ask our neighbor to the East or West to come in and join my show
When I find the perfect balance in my world of highs and lows
I'll be satisfied won't live mystified, have the will to fight my foes
I will find a sanctuary spread my seeds and watch them grow
They will change our time, we will all be fine, when we deal the final blow
Erline...I hear the shouts
They scream...and to drown doubts
