All of our Lives

Story Behind The Song

I believe the Columbia University protest was the last significant protest I was at...I was very young and impressed by the magnitude of it all...fast paced speech making hippie loving culture that had exploded in basically my backyard...so to NYC speak... The excitement and futility of it all left me confused but it stayed with me. Many years later as a composer, I though of that same innocent, still shiny, futility of it all because decades later...nothing had really changed and the protest and the reasons remain if not the same...very close and I wrote 'All of our lives' as a reminder or a question of what are we doing?...what's the definition of insanity?

Yea we just keep doing it over and over and now it's on a humongous scale ...who would of thought!

Lyrics

All of our Lives

I've searched so many years a house to kneel at and someone would explain what's going on
With all these killings falling into cycles
Now in our lives, All of our lives
They're burning down all of our ethnic cities
They massacre ideas different beliefs
I know soon there's a reckoning a coming
Now in our lives, all of our lives
The closest I have been near to a savior, is that tall dark handsome preacher on TV
If he's the best hope we can get to save us
we better pack our sins and go to Vegas
Now in our lives, all of our lives
We start by sorting out only the righteous but when we choose we see there's no one left
Cause we're the ones creating all these cycles
Now in our lives, all of our lives
Why do we always pray after we've broken?
Can't we start again like we're one race?
We've mortgaged generations and their futures, we've spent all that we never really had
And still our leaders can't come up with answers
Now in our lives, All of our lives
Why do we always pray after we've broken?
Can't we start the world like we're one race?
Now in our lives, All of our lives
