Song Description

song about the most famous landmark in Panama City in the Cove area, where the Duke and Dutchess of Windsor and people like Clark Gable, used to stay while in town.

Story Behind the Song

I wrote the song about 3 years after the Cove Hotel was burned down, and soon we began to use the name, "The Cove Hotel Band". We've been playing under that name since 1976. Another fine example of "improvement".

Lyrics

COVE HOTEL

At the Cove Hotel, black beans and rice were swell,
and you could lose your past in the garden grass, before your heart could swell
Well it stood there by the Bay, so many rooms to choose, and when the bellhop brought mint julep, he did a slow, soft shoe!
Or you could mosey on down by the beach, after the sun went down, and watch the sparkle of the phosporous, in the garden lawn,
Chorus
At the Cove Hotel, black beans and rice were swell,
and you could lose your past in the garden grass, before your heart could swell
(Musical interlude)
Well, it's not there anymore, history turned the page,
and another fine landmark bites the dust with the modern age
Chorus
At the Cove Hotel, black beans and rice were swell, and you could past in the garden grass, before your heart could swell
End (take a bow)
