Story Behind The Song
I wrote this song in 2004 when the War on Terror had just begun. As a nation, we hadn't seen true war since Vietnam, so most of us had no memory or experience with sending our young men to fight in a battle. I wondered what it was like for the women who had to say goodbye not knowing if their husband/partner would return. From those thoughts and feelings, I wrote the story which then became the song, "In Your Heart"
Song Description
In Your Heart is a story song about a soldier who leaves a woman behind while he goes off to war. She doesn't hear from him for two years, in which time, the pain of separation begins to fade. But the hope of his return doesn't. Finally, he sends her a letter to let her know that he still needs and loves her. In the end, he returns and they spend the next 60 years of their life together. In Your Heart is a song about long-term relationship commitment, devotion and love that lasts longer than life does. At 70bpm, it's a heartfelt ballad, with sparse instrumentation which allows the lyrics to shine, leading the listener along the pathway of the story's timeline.

Lyrics
She was only sixteen, when he told her
I'll be going away
The guard had called him over
Don't know how long he'll stay
Her eyes began to tear up
Her heart sank with fear
He took her hand and told her
I'll always be right here
In your heart
Keep me safe and warm
I'll always need you
To keep the fire on
One day I'll return
And take you in my arms
And love all your hurt away
Don't give up on me
Promise I'll always be
In your Heart
It's been over two years, since he left her
She hadn't heard a word
The lonely nights are normal
The pain no longer hurts
She thought him gone forever
Until one day it came
The long awaited letter
That said I hope I've stayed
Now sixty more years have gone by
They lived i wedded bliss
And as she leaned down over
To give her final kiss
Tears ran down her face
But peace filled up her heart
As she thought of yesteryear
Cause tight in her hand
Was a letter that read
