Song Description

24-year old girl gives her mom peace in her final moments of life by telling her that she was raised to be kind and to do good for others. She would go to heaven when she died and she thanked her mom for working so hard to raise a nice person deserving of Heaven.

Story Behind the Song

This story is very close to my heart. My niece passed away from brain cancer. She accepted her death with grace and in the end she showed more strength and more courage than I have ever witnessed. This song is for her and for my sister--her mom.

Lyrics

Mama lay down beside me, be strong and don't cry no more
You gave me wings for flying.. I'm gonna use them to soar
Straight to the arms of Jesus, where He'll keep me safe and sound
Mama don't rush to get there, I'll find my way around

Remember when I was little, it was the first day of school
I rode in the back in the middle between the other two
I cried when you had to leave me, which made it harder on you
You wiped my tears and softly said "I promise to be here by two"

Mama its one in the morning. You need to get some rest
You don't have to worry, cause Mama, you done your best
I'm on my way to Jesus and I owe that all to you
Close your eyes and I'll close mine. I'll be Heaven by two.

You taught me about life and living, made sure I knew right from wrong
To ask when I needed forgiving and not a hold a grudge too long
You told me to think of others and not only think of myself
To be a friend and tell the truth and value more than wealth.

Mama its one in the morning. You need to get some rest
You don't have to worry, cause Mama, you done your best
I'm on my way to Jesus and I owe that all to you
Close your eyes and I'll close mine. I'll be Heaven by two.
