Rock N Rolled A Little Too Long

Story Behind The Song

I think I might have written this just around the time I was on a Legends Of Rock tour in Australia, around 1988, as a backup singer in the main band, and The Everly Brothers were on right after us. Bud EmmonsRIP was playing Pedal Steel for them, as he did for many years, and i had a great conversation with him about touring. i asked him what else he was doing, and he replied along the lines of ' Oh nothin' much, I just sit around on my front porch and wait till they call me and say we are goin' somewhere else, and away I go.' He was so nice, such a gentleman, probably gave me the idea of the road / tour circus which we were on, and him sittin' at home watchin' the chickens...

Rock n Rolled a Little Too Long

Drinkin' like a fish spendin' money like water
I sure like to live the high life
Out on the road just a doin' what I wanna
Walkin' on the edge of a knife
This rock n roll soul might be gettin' too old
For the one night stands to go on
There ain't no doubt it just burned me out
I can't tell my right from my wrong

Chorus:
And I'm sayin'
Oooh eee, guess I rock n rolled a little too long
Yes indeed, goin' back to where I started from
Where it all began, where the river ran,
And sang us all a song
Ooh eee , guess I rock n rolled a little too long.

You start out keen, young and green
Runnin' way ahead of the crowd
It was always just enough, to make a few bucks
And go chasin' all the good times down
We had fun, but now the time has come
To say that enough is enough
This circus is movin' off, take down the big top
There's another kind of life that I love...

Rpt Chorus

And when I'm home, everything gets easy
When I'm home, I'm taking life in style
So you just keep all your never-signed deals
All your rip - off, want-it-bad steals
Feel my mind, gettin' stronger every mile

Rpt Chorus x 2 and repeat last line( title) x 3...
