Kings Above and Kings Below

Story Behind The Song

This song comes out of genuine exasperation at dead ends and faulty systems. As I was contemplating the confoundedness of life, my drummer friend, Lloyd Martin, in South Africa, also contemplating the confoundedness of life in his hemisphere coined this phrase and put it on his facebook profile, "Kings above and kings below, no wonder why we're moving slow." I immediately seized on it, and asked him if I could quote him in a song, and he agreed to be a party to my whimsical lyrics.

Song Description

Catchy folksy feelings and tune, Kings Above and Kings Below, shouts out that when everyone is slacking on their jobs, nothing works. Excuses, and lack of oversight, cutting corners, and shady alliances muddy the gears from family loyalties to farming and transportation and the justice system. No wonder!

Lyrics

Farmers don't farm, and bees don't buzz,
bakers don't bake, and lenders don't trust,
rulers don't rule, overseers don't see,
cleaners don't clean and leaders don't lead, na-na-na-na-no.

Kings above, and Kings below, no wonder why we're moving slow...

Teachers don't teach, and daddies don't da-dah, student's don't learn, and mamas don't ma-ma.
Judges don't judge
and workers don't work.
Neighbors ain't neighborly and
lovers don't lerk... na-na-na-na no.

Kings above, and kings below, no wonder why we're moving slow...

Houses don't sell and laws don't nest, caretakers taken, Sabbaths don't rest,
builders don't build and
true don' true!
Planes don't fly or trains go choo-choo... na-na-na-na no.

Kings above and kings below,
no wonder why we're moving slow...

Wonder why the earth keeps turning? Uh oh!
Thankin God that he's not human! Uh oh!

Kings above and kings below
no wonder why we're moving slow...oh.
