Lyrics
"THE NEW AMERICA"
VERSE 1
No one trusts a stranger, no matter what the race.
No one says hello my friend, no one shows their face.
We live a life of strangers, as we watch the setting sun.
Walk the streets in shadows, our hand upon a gun.
Crack is not a word we use, to talk about a door.
Waste is now a magic word, for 12 year old to score.
CHORUS:
Is this the new America, a place we live in fear;
Is this the land where soldiers bled, and mothers shed their tears.
Is this the new America, the land of the free,
With purple mountains majesty, without the liberty.
(END CHORUS)
VERSE 2.
We fought a war for freedom, we rang the freedom bell,
shed our blood on either shore, and overseas as well.
We rid the land of slavery, and turned the people free.
Took the steps, to right the wrongs, from sea to shining sea.
Its time to put the guns away, to keep our children safe.
Join the fight to make it right, it's time to keep the faith.
REPEAT CHORUS
VERSE 3
We cannot blame the people, we cannot blame the past.
We have to make it hand in hand. We have to make it last.
Talk to friends and neighbors, sisters, brothers too.
Everyone in Washington, if they will speak to you.
Talk to everyone you know, come and join the fight.
America will need us all, to help her make it right.
CHORUS... FINAL...
This is the new America, the home of the brave.
Where you can call me brother, but you can't call me slave.
This is the new America, the land of the free,
with purple mountains majesty, the land of liberty.
with purple mountains majesty, the land of li--ber--ty.
