Story Behind The Song
My first car was a stick shift, and it became an ongoing joke that everyone in the car, including me, would duck when I took off because I would usually jerk us back and forth through the intersection, at least in the beginning. Nobody wanted to be seen! Haha. I remember my dad laughing when I would pull into the driveway. He said he could always hear me coming from a block away. This song encompasses a lot and brings back a lot of good memories, especially moments like that.
Song Description
**Won Broadjam "Song of The Month" August 2026**
I had so much fun writing this song. First, songs like this allow me to visit places that have changed, time that no longer exists, and people I can no longer hug.
I went backwards from the direction I normally write. I'm typically a lyrics-and-melody-first writer, but this time I was noodling around with my guitar and got stuck on the chord progression Em7 > Cadd9 > G > D > Em > bridged 3rd fret low E, A strings > G > D.
Then the hook came: "Summer Moon Shining," followed by the chorus melody. I wrote down some imagery words I thought I might want in the song, which became the short punch lines of the chorus. From there, I wrote the verses and transitions from the top with a bunch of good memories in mind.
This is another personal milestone for me. I had the songwriter zoomies when I completed this song.
