Story Behind The Song
I wanted to write about the kind of relationship that was never quite permanent but was too important to become insignificant. The song follows that feeling through time: a breakup at the end of September, becoming strangers by October, and then seeing each other again in January. The idea of being "almost holy" came from looking back at something beautiful and destructive and realizing that, even after enough time has passed to call it history, your body may disagree. Sometimes one look from someone is enough to tell you that you aren't history yet.
Song Description
"Almost Holy" is a restrained alternative ballad about the strange permanence of an unfinished love. Moving through the months after a breakup and into an unexpected reunion, the song explores the distance between being over and being forgotten. Acoustic guitar provides the motion while shimmering electric guitar hangs around the vocal like a memory, supporting a raw, close performance. At its center is the realization that some relationships never become ancient history because the body continues to recognize what the mind has tried to leave behind.

Lyrics
I still haven't figured out how to put you down
How to surrender
What should have been forever
You let me go at the end of September
And I was a ghost by October,
leaving town
my things in boxes
We were almost holy
Almost holy
Holy
We we were almost holy
I came home in January what a mistake the snow made me ache
I was staying at my mom's place
There was a knock at the door
you were standing out in the cold
a Beautiful ruin
We were almost holy
Almost holy
Holy
We we were almost holy
You ask if you can come inside
I just open the door and let you in
You cross the threshold brushing past me
My body remember you like something ancient
Something in the way you look at me says we aren't history
We were almost holy
Almost holy
Holy
We we were almost holy
Almost holy
Holy
Holy
I still haven't figured out how to put you down
