"30 & 2" came from the idea of being clinically alive without necessarily feeling alive. The body keeps doing what it is supposed to do--breathing, heart beating, moving through ordinary routines--while the mind feels disconnected from it. The CPR refrain became the central contradiction: how do you resuscitate someone who never technically died?
