Story Behind The Song
With the advent of the war in Iraq, a young serviceman is writing a letter to home, wishing he were there, almost willing it. As he writes he also includes the reason he is there and what he is fighting for.
We received air time on our local radio station during the 2003 Christmas season, following a front page article in the local newspaper.

Lyrics
The Gift
By: Ben Zinger (Dale Bennett/Marc Hatzinger)
1st verse:
Well we?ve come to that time of year again
Seasons Greetings in every thought
The tree is up and full of lights
All the presents are mostly bought
I wish I were there to help you out
I know just what I?ll miss
The kids have wrote down all that they want
I hope I?m on their list
2nd verse:
Even though I won?t be there with you
When you wake up on Christmas day
I send my heart in this envelope
From this chaos so far away
On Christmas Eve I?ll search the skies
Looking for that magic sleigh
I?ll hitch a ride with Santa Claus
And be home on Christmas day
Chorus:
I pretend the bombs are jingle bells
There?s a snowman made of sand
This letter I write is my Christmas list
All I ask for is peace in this land
What?s falling from the sky isn?t snow
Freedom doesn?t come wrapped with a bow
3rd verse:
This morning we entered this little town
(I) took a small boy by the hand
I tried to show him the gift we brought
Tried to make him understand
We know it could happen anytime
Any one of us could fall
(We) just heard that we lost 2 more boys
They gave the biggest gift of all
Chorus: Chorus:
