Song Description

Exploring the realities of angels in our lives. Title from the Bible's Book of Hebrews, about "entertaining angels, unaware" when we are kind to strangers.

Story Behind the Song

My (then) publisher in Nashville called asking for songs about angels for Stella Parton's upcoming project. I wrote it that day, but the project was put on hold due to the 9/11 attacks in New York. Song has been recorded by 2 other (small, independent) artists, but not a "mainstream" artist-- yet. INCREDIBLE response to this song when I perform it live.

Lyrics

Vs. 1: Sometimes I feel the breath of Heaven, and I can almost see
Holy angels standing with flaming swords, watching over me;
But sometimes Heaven's angels don't come in robes of white,
But tattered clothes and a cry for help in the middle of the night.

Chorus: Entertaining angels, unaware;
Sometimes appearances can fool you;
You may see a stranger standing there,
But he (she) may be the one the Lord sent to you;
So don't overlook the little things, or the little ones,
Or someone who needs your care;
For you just might be entertaining angels, unaware.

Vs. 2: A word of hope in a desperate moment from someone you've never known;
A helping hand when you least expect it; they're there--and then they're gone.
Sometimes they're invisible, and sometimes in disguise;
But always working, always helping, I hope we realize (we're)

[CHORUS]

Bridge: Angels are mighty warriors fighting for our lives;
And with God's help, all the power of Heaven is always by our side.

[CHORUS]

Entertaining angels, you just might be entertaining angels..... unaware.
