You've Changed

Story Behind The Song

In this recording, everyone is improvising. The only person who had heard this song before was singer-songwriter-pianist Jesse Maclaine. Intended as a warm up song for an afternoon studio session, this little gem may be the finest thing we made that day.

Song Description

Everyone changes. This is sort of a meditation on that concept. People change, not always the way we want or hope. That doesn't make change wrong. I like tea and I like black coffee, I like peaches and I like lemonade but they are all very different from each other. It can be challenging to enjoy lemonade when you are expecting a peach. That lyric is also a reference to someone being a "peach" and the old adage "If life gives you lemons then make lemonade." Ultimately this is a song about coexistence and making the best of everything, including our own attitudes about change.

Lyrics

You've changed.

You used to be my perfect cup of tea, but now you're black coffee.

You used to be a peach, but now I'm making lemonade.

You've changed.
