Rock is back! South Africa's guitar bombshell, Sky, is making sure of that! There's something undeniably fresh about this down to earth girl. Maybe it's her fiery stage presence or possibly it's her uniquely melodic hooks. But, whatever it is, it's easy to understand why Sky's international flavor appeals to many diverse musical tastes.
Introducing a new breed of edgy groove that she has donned, "Hip-Rock," Sky has arrived onto the Miami scene with an eye on a solo career in the States. Along with drawing inspiration from songwriters like U2, The Police, Pink Floyd and The Eurythmics, her hot African roots and cool Greek influences define this eclectic style.
Sky has toured extensively throughout Europe. She has worked with Kostas Kalimeris of Universal Records, French label Holy Records and Greek label Sleezey Rider Records as a recording artist and has several collaboration album credits in Europe. Additionally, she has performed at many well-regarded shows including the European Rock Festival at Lekavitos stadium in Greece, where she was the only female performer selected to participate from 50 European countries. Locally Sky has performed at the Goombay Festival and was invited on stage to jam with the Black Eyed Peas at one of South Beaches hot spots for an MTV show in 2005.
Sky has locally been featured in publications such as MusiciansOnly.net (Cover and feature article), New Yorks Urban publication 'IMT Styles Magazine' (Ones to watch Issue 5/Volume 1), and South Floridas 'Whats Hot Magazine' (Rockin' Lauderdale Issue 5/Page 27) as well as several mentions in Europe.
When asked about nailing tracks down in her home studio, Sky winks, picks up a Fender and smiles:Let's go! Indeed Sky does it all. This self-proclaimed 'computer geek' is equally comfortable programming, engineering, producing,composing, playing drums or fronting her band, THE SKY BAND. 'I feel like I have a long time love affair with the recording process"; Sky muses. Although her lyrics remain faithful to mainstream rock, they are intensely thought provoking and profound. Sky today is a truly multicultural class act.
