Gorby's bio

Roderick Gorby could be the next Herbie Hancock. He is an equally gifted pianist and composer in the classical, jazz and electronic music genres and has performed with such musicians as Lisa Ferrigno and Jamey Tate.

His musical journey started when he discovered he could play his older brother’s piano music by ear at age 7. This sibling rivalry jumpstarted his musical appetite and he has pursued excellence in the art ever since. His cousin Antonia Elisabeth Brown, a semi-retired opera singer now living in Switzerland, encouraged him to compose and dream big.

Roderick entered the highly competitive Juilliard School for pipe organ in 2003 after studying the instrument for only 4 years. After one semester, jazz called and he answered by joining the U.S. Army to follow in the footsteps of musicians sucha as Dave Brubeck and John Coltrane.

Gorby (a member of BMI, Mensa, and PAS) studied jazz with Jim Roberts, a student of Sir Roland Hannah and Herbie Hancock.
