artist comments: Thank you Brian, your review has given me the confidence boost I needed for sure. Friends & family are always going to tell you something is 'great' - having it run past an experienced pair of ears is invaluable. I wouldn't have said The Turtles were my biggest influence by any stretch of the imagination, but Happy Together is such a great song... you know something? I honestly still can't hear the similarities, which goes to show an artist is sometimes deaf to their own music! I asked Echo to play Funny Face by The Muffs, but it just started playing random songs by The Muppets, & I got kind of carried away. Going to try and redo the vocals & mix a bit over the summertime, and will be in touch again for sure. Thank you again, sincerely!

General Comments

Hello and thank you for your submission. Really enjoyed this track, had my head bobbing. Theme wise and overall concept is a home run. I love the throwback intro, really gave it a some tension and anticipation, Getting right into it helps a lot especially in an instant gratification era and you deliver. I sort of sense you are holding back a little on the the vocals..they are good be bold be brash, own it and the inspiration that made you write this song!! Definitely do not leave out the vocals! Perhaps re-record them..the part where you sing "please please please" this..this urgency this angst is what I want to hear more of! Think of Robert Smith of the Cure...how his voice is an instrument..he belts things out high, low, soft yells screams, whispers..I want to hear this in you.

Artist's Submitted Question:

This is the only song I've written & recorded that I actually like... wondering how I can make it better. Does it have potential for placement? Is it a song I should consider selling on to someone else? Should I focus more on pitching an instrumental version? (have a lot of reservations about the vocal). Who does it remind you of? (I'm struggling with that!). Any feedback appreciated, thanks Brian.

Pro's Answer/Comments:

Continuing from above, yes in placements and when submitting we also need incremental version but not at the exclusion of your vocal one. In my opinion I would not focus on instrumental version, it needs your vocals. I understand your reservations about the vocal but I believe you know you have more life to sing into them..do it! Who does it remind me of? I referenced the Muffs as a resemblance, take a listen to 'Funny face' also a good reference point is Hole..Courtney Love's passion, emotion and angst is what makes her songs you can do it too! Definitely has sync potential as well as chart potential. You can reach out to me more about placements too. What does the song remind me of: THE TURTLES 'Happy Together'!! Yes all caps because the minute your intro hit my ears I started humming along and thought it might go into "I can't see me lovin' nobody but you For all my life!" Its remarkably similar in structure but that's a compliment..its a huge and amazingly great song! I wonder if you were influenced by this song!? The only other thing I would say is I do like the Sax, but when it goes into the solo, it kind of loses me, a little to self indulgent..keep it but maybe replace and/or add guitar instead. Overall digging it, If you do re-record it, I would love to hear and would be happy to review any more of your work! Let me know:) Looking forward to hearing it and from you.

Quote From Pro:

Flightside's'20 Yard's had me at the intro, swept me away into a head bobbin sway that would make the Turtles happy together!
