Owen's appearances include the Trowbridge Symposium 2002 (Nashville Talent Search); Hungry Ear (Atlanta, GA); Red Light Café (Atlanta, GA); Limerick Junction (Atlanta, GA); and Eddie's Attic (Decatur, GA) where the Indigo Girls launched their career.

Writing poetry and lyrics since his preteens, Owen counts among his influences Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Steve Earle, The Rolling Stones and Hemmingway. Owen’s performing experience ranges from Alt. Country, to Blues, to Rock. In addition, Owen is a graduate of the University of South Carolina with a BS in Marketing (1994) and is a U.S. Marines alumnus with four years of global experience. Owen credits his diverse background for “shaping my perception of the world”.

In late 2001, Owen recorded his first CD, As I Understand It, that included 12 original songs with longtime friend and collaborator Steve Dukes. In late 2002, Owen made the trip to Nashville, TN were he recorded a Master Session of four songs with Grammy Nominated Producer George McClure. On this same project, Owen got a chance to work with Anthony Crawford (Steve Winwood, Neil Young, Vince Gill), Ronnie Godfrey and Rich Adler (Alison Krauss, Johnny Cash, Neil Young)
