Mudville’s timeless yet unmistakably forward music is a stirring and soulful sonic brew of weighty old-school grooves, sultry avant-blues and soaring, jazzy laments in a futuristic soundscape. Songwriter/vocalist Marilyn Carino and multi-instrumentalist/producer Benjamin Rubin combine keen prose and iconoclastic, often symphonic found sounds with virtuoso musicianship to create gripping and unsentimental reflections on love and life in our injured society. Carino’s strange, fearless voice has been celebrated in The Village Voice as “a cross between P.J. Harvey and Sarah Vaughn”.

Rubin has toured with Jazz Mandolin Project and Marshall Crenshaw and produced a remix of “When I’m Writing”, the new single from Wu-Tang Clan’s Killah Priest. Carino was a long-time country crooner and protégé of Crazy Horse bassist Billy Talbot on several recording projects.

Mudville released a four-song EP in 2002. A full-length CD, The Glory of Man is Not In Vogue, is slated for release in October
