I write and perform my songs, which are pop in foundation but run from honey sweet to tree-bark rough.
I have a band, Satellite Dogs, and we just independently released a disc/album titled "Showdown at Big Dalton". It's mostly honey sweet with some raw guitars, harmonies, and other sounds like organ and harmonica. Recorded on 2" tape.
My solo songs run from noisy to spare arrangements, and the lyrics interpretive pertaining to life, lies, love, protest--things we pick up in our radar.
My other band , The Osco Fiasco self released our EP disc late '06.
I play solo and with my bands all over the L.A. area from Echo Park to West L.A. to Long Beach and in between.
I also write and perform folk songs for kids and real egocentric adults and have released a collection of folk songs with my friend Gigi. She's half of Gigi and Mike and our disc is called "Crunchy Party Mix".

Just Who the Heck Am I?

I'm Michael Salas, songwriter/performer, based in Los Angeles. I write and sing my own songs, some with a couple of bands, and some solo. I also have penned children songs, but in the style of my regular songs.
Those songs are a picture of straight ahead rock in the vein of very early Tom Petty mixed with the different stylings of Wilco--frequently evolving, sometimes loud, sometimes softer.

I play in clubs all over the L.A. area, from Echo Park to downtown, Long Beach, West L.A., Pasadena, Hollywood, Topanga.

A children's folk album, "Crunchy Party Mix"--a folk song hootenany was released in 2006. It's a duo with my friend Gigi and myself. We also play all over L.A. under our name Gigi and Mike.
