Melt initially started with cousins Paul Pipitone (bass) and Chris Gagnon (drums). They found charismatic vocalist Julie Bannerton who had moved to Boston from Detroit two years ago. While in Detroit, she played in two all-girl bands. Looking for something different, Julie responded to an ad they placed. The arrival of Nils Freiberger solidified the line up. Nils and Paul have been friends for many years, and when the guitarist position became available, he jumped at the opportunity. Nils, who had been playing in local RI bands for many years, was ready for a new challenge. The quartet got straight to work revising some existing original material and adding many new exciting collaborations to their ever growing set. They created a buzz throughout the year, and have gotten favorable reviews. Julie made the Noise poll as one of the “sexiest women on the local scene”. The group has finished their demo and is currently shopping it around and playing gigs in the New England area.
