Marques Bovre, for good or ill, was born to be a songwriter. Forty-six years into the journey, he has come to embrace that reality. With the band SoDangYang, Bovre is in the prime of his voice and finds a wonderful foil somewhere south of Maggie Weiser's uvula. Weiser, a mild-mannered community radio maven by day, brings a "pop chanteuse in hiking boots" aura to the festivities. The wizardly JIm Schwall (celebrating his 5th decade in the business) slings guitar and occasional accordion for SoDangYang, bringing his infectious love for "in the moment music". The rock-ribbed rhythm section of Ken Stevenson (better known as "Special K") and Ethan Noordyk (young and ruggedly handsome without threatening anyone's sexuality) keep various appendages on the throttle when the wheels threaten to fly off. Marques Bovre and SoDangYang are more like a prayer of thanksgiving for musical joy than a band. Give it a listen and see if there's an amen in you.
