Lai-Si

Lai-Si first name Lai means ever changing melody, a style of music developed in the eighteenth century. Giving honor to this meaning Lai-Si Fernandez, who was born on 22 December 1984 in Venezuela under the zodiac sign of Capricorn, is an artist who integrates the most diverse rhythms and musical genres into her music. Her parents, Maria Caridad Lok and Orlando Fernandez, both of Cuban origin, moved to live in the USA when she was just six months. Indeed, the mix of cultures and roots in Lai-Si is what provides her single entity as an artist.
Since childhood the girl was noted for her beautiful voice and melody, her art and music have always been deeply rooted from her family. Her paternal grandmother was a Soprano Opera singer for 18 yrs in the Teatro Nacional of Havana, Cuba and her father plays many instruments. The sound of the flute, piano, guitar and drums from her father helped her develop a unique style. Since the age of 8 yrs, Lai-Si sang in choirs, festivals and showed great musical talent all the way to College.
At age 18 she decided to go to school in New York and enrolled at The American Musical and Dramatic Academy NYC, studying Musical Theatre and Theatre. Initially, the idea of this young artist was to be behind the stage, behind the scenes, but the reality was different. In Musical Theatre classes she started to play main characters and that's when she realized that where she belonged was on stage.
During this time, she not only discovered her talent as a solo singer but she realized the great facility she had for composing both lyrics and melodies. Lai-Si started working very seriously that facet of her career and when she began to write her first songs, where inspired by daily experiences and impregnated full of positive messages of tolerance, peace and love. In 2003 she entered the prestigious organization BMI, who opened their doors to enforce her rights as a composer. Also, Lai-Si became part of SAG and EQUITY in 2006, two major Unions essential to any artist.
After finishing her college career Lai-Si had great opportunities that have contributed to her artistic maturity. She participated in the 2007 musical Celia, devoted to the legendary Cuban artist, Celia Cruz, the show was presented at New World Stages in New York. That same year Hollywood opened the door and was part of the artistic cast of the movie The Brave One, starring Jodie Foster and Terrence Howard.
In 2008 he joined the band The CornerStoners, becoming one of the lead singers. Together with this group Lai-Si Fernandez has known about the international music market as they have spread their music to several countries, especially the European Union. Furthermore, with this band this artist expressing herself through different music genres, from Hip-Hop Fusion to Jazz.
Recently this year, Lai-Si recorded her first solo album under the title: Two World One Sound, with 11 songs in English, composed by her. The production was in charge of the company LaiLok Productions, founded by Lai-Si and her mother Maria C Lok. Her first work is a reflection of an artist enriched by her roots, her two worlds, the country where she grew up, the United States and that of her ancestors, Cuba. She's a musical evolution and fusion of rhythms and expressions. The Jazz, R & B and Afro-Cuban music are the genres that dominate the album Two World One Sound.
Lai-Si aspires to internationalize her voice and have it be heard on five continents. She speaks English, Spanish and Italian and calls herself a citizen of the world. She is an artist who simply wants to live from her music and give the public the best of herself. Her next project is to record an album in Spanish and conquer the Hispanic market.
