Kevin Jacoby - Long Bio

Kevin Jacoby almost always knows what to do next. This time the answer is: release a record.

A few words about Kevin: he's a songwriter similar in style to Jeff Buckley and John Mayer; co-founder and CEO of Rain Computers, Inc.; and a professional bass player with many miles of road behind him.

And now, after half a lifetime of experiences worthy of having a song written about them, Kevin has finished his debut album, Truth, available courtesy of Rain Music Group.

Backed up by some of NYC's most talented musicians, Kevin Jacoby has woven a soaring chronicle of past lives and past loves. Simple, poignant melodies tumble effortlessly over lush harmony and simmering grooves to create a narrative that draws the listener further in with every song.

Truth is honest and real. It's the catalyst for a limited series of engagements in New York City this year. And it's a chance to see Kevin Jacoby as he truly is.

In The Beginning...
A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away called Philadelphia, Kevin Jacoby signed up at University of the Arts, alma mater to his original, bassist hero, Stanley Clarke. It would prove to be the beginning of an adventure that would take him around the world, through the heart of the music business and into the field of creative technology.

After four years of nearly constant playing, Kevin emerged as a professional bass player in his own right and moved to New York. He spent the next decade on tour and in the studio. His horizons were broadened, his feet touched hundreds of stages and he would have seen as many sunrises from the studio if studios had windows.

"I learned the old fashioned way - by always playing with people who were better than me", remembers Kevin. "You get your ass kicked every night and you never forget those lessons."

In 2001, Kevin was offered the opportunity of a lifetime. A band on the verge of greatness needed a bass player. Kevin was hired to go on tour for three weeks. He stayed for five years.

The band was called Cecilia. Together with Kevin, they signed to Atlantic Records and set about the task of touring and making albums.

"It was definitely my kind of music. The musicianship was inspiring and the songs were infused with real life - the kind of beautiful truth that connects people through a shared experience. This was the chance to be part of something great. I had to take it."

While on the road, Kevin was inspired by the constantly evolving scene around him and began to write his own music. Endless hours of travel gave the young musician time to learn his craft all over again. In hotel rooms, backstage, on the bus - there was always a guitar nearby and a quiet place to hide.

When Cecilia disbanded in 2005, Kevin set out to reinvent himself. He was armed with a priceless education in the commerce of art, yet reticent to return to the life of a freelance musician.

"I came to the conclusion that if I really wanted to make my dreams come true, I'd have to take matters into my own hands."

It was then that Kevin decided to focus on songwriting and record his first solo album.

Around that same time, Kevin started a new project, helping to create a company called Rain Computers, a group dedicated to empowering the creativity of musicians, composers, filmmakers and designers through digital technology. With the hard won talents of technologist Bill Paschick and noted designer, Keith Link, Kevin and the Rain Team set out to change the world.

Five years later, Kevin is now the CEO of Rain Computers, Inc and has released his debut album, Truth, on the record label of Rain's growing media collective, Rain Music Group.

For years to come, Kevin will immerse himself in a litany of new ventures surrounded by the world's greatest emerging talent. But there will only ever be one first record. And that's the Truth.
