Biography for Gary Soloman 2007

Anyone raised in the Australian Outback and who attended over 25 Primary schools , moving from town to town as a young child is bound to have the red dust gypsy blues imprinted on their soul and Gary Soloman is no exception . Gary was introduced to the music of the Beatles, Johnny O’Keefe, Rolling stones , Roy Orbison , Aretha Franklin ,BB King and Ray Charles by his Father who did a stint as a DJ on 3UZ .Neil , Gary’s father would give him the latest 45 demo singles that came across his turntable.
At age 12 his first guitar was a beat up old steel string which he hammered out all of his favorite songs on and by the age of 16 was performing in Melbourne band ‘Flight” fronted by lead singer Lisa Bade .
On bass, Gary would go on to play with many Australian bands ,artists and legends including Sharin Anderson and the Blue Angels, Modern Life, Freezone with Ross Hannaford Geoff Bridgford and Kim O’Leary, the fabulous Shoop Shoops ,John Young Ricki May ,the Drifters ,John St Peters, Delilah, Doug Parkinson , John Paul Young, Black Cat Bone, Samba over the Rainbow room, and Bo Diddley.
Gary joined up with Marie Wilson and Kane Holden and the dynamic trio together went on to get several charting singles on the Australian airwaves.
Meanwhile, songs which had been brewing for many years finally, came to fruition with the release of his first solo album ‘Tide of Emotion’ in the late nineties. Gary promoted the Album’s release with a solo tour of the Australian outback and with a sense of dejavous his 1966 VC Valiant took him back to the country towns he grew up in and to perform the songs inspired by those early impressionable years.
With the release of his latest offering, ‘Shake that voodoo’ Gary states ;
“It’s been a long time between Albums as I am not a prolific writer and I can only write when I have something to say. Whether I am playing my own songs or material by other artists in small intimate Venues or Concert Halls it doesn’t much matter, the main thing is to do what makes you feel alive and connected , give it a shot ,put it out there and remember to smell the roses along the way. ♫
