It seems we have finally succeeded, in prostituting music. The dizzying efforts of marketing have gripped us so tightly that now we dance like puppets while the curtain is up. Elvis Presley was correct when he said “I don’t know anything about music, in my line you don’t have to.” And thus, our creative effort as musicians has been tainted by what will sell and what could be a hit.
I’m in the process of recording the second “dont panic” album, since my musical beginnings at Mary Washington College. The easy part was declaring high ideals in school and the difficult part has been attempting to grow into them. With an ever rotating set of musicians from one show to the next I have been on a most exciting journey with all the drama of a soap opera and the recompense of hope.
I intend to be a part of the long overdue Renaissance, a time where artists will concern themselves with art and business men with business. “Hell is full of musical amateurs.”
