Welcome to the 2026 6-Pack Songwriting Competition Blog!

Back at long last - the 6-Pack is a series of 6 different songwriting competitions and definitely one of the most challenging song contests there is. We've come up with some fun challenges this year so that anybody can participate!

We'll be announcing the prizes and the sponsors soon - check out the 6-Pack page to learn about this year's challenges.

Feel free to discuss the challenges on the blog here. Just remember, we're all musicians here so play nice. Criticism is great, but always keep the comments constructive!

Who's gonna do a track on Minnesota?

I'm a registered Republican and think it's our God given right to protest while embracing the second amendment.... and I also happen to have a huge soft spot for ICU nurses.

What I saw was a legally armed man stripped of his weapon, who was then executed for having a weapon (that he in no way used), and finally... in the aftermath, there was a gaslighting campaign from the incompetent... telling me my eyes are lying.

I'm a registered Republican and this doesn't settle well with me

There are more important things in this life than blind loyalty...things like integrity.

Someone should mend a bridge between the left and the right here. I'll help if you've got the right message... So will my award winning artist.

Thank for the heads up on this AI track.... Personally, i can identify AI rather quickly, mostly because I have heard it all too many times.
'But I honestly don't care, it's just a tool, I just want people to understand "this is a song writing contest."

AI may be involved...... but did it do good?

It takes a programmer and an artist to avoid the obvious trap...

AI is just a child.

There is a winner in each of the 6 categories. And the 1st, 2nd and 3rd winner in each category wins something. At least that is how it was back in 2006. I won a 3rd place in one contest and a 2nd place in another. I also one 1st place in 2012. All total, I wound up winning 2 keyboards, a pair of Genlec speakers, $300, all the Sample Tank libraries and other stuff. I guess they would add up all the first place winners to get an overall grand winner. Let's hope the prizes this year are as good!!

I'd like to know if this is a writing contest - ie. demo production is treated equal to radio-friendly production - or will the songs be judged both on writing and production?

Songs are rated by Broadjam members, so it's up to them! It's generally always a plus to have good production but anything goes.

They need to fill up each challenge with enough material to create a good balance for voting. Once this happens, they'll open up reviews.

If they don't wait, many artists will end up competing against the same songs over and over. Broadjam knows what's up though, so they'll wait until those challenges have a healthy amount of songs to compete against each other.

I'd give it a few months.

My only question is "why aren't they advertising this more?" I would have expected an email or in site message from Roy by now.

A.I. is after all the new thing in the horizon...

Are there detectors for A.I. prompted work or are we on the honour system there? Either way... worth a look.

Not to say A.I. doesn't have a place here... people will vote down stuff for being too commercially vanilla sometimes. Using A.I. will not guarantee success. It just means you know how to prompt. To be clear... Nothing can replace the soul a true artist brings to their work.

I just wanted to know if artists needed to declare AI usage. And equally... if it was policed.

Can you clarify how the overall winner is determined across the six challenges?

In the past 6-Pack competitions, there was a point system or cumulative scoring across categories. I don't see that outlined for this contest yet, so I just want to understand how "Six Challenges. One Winner." is being evaluated.

Hi Bob,

The leaderboard rankings for each challenge will be determined the same as in the past - from "Good, Better, Best" peer ratings and total number of songs entered.

After the Leaderboard Competition is complete, the Top 40 songwriters will advance to the Finals, with elimination rounds to decide the Finals Winner.
