the polar bear project

The Polar Bear Project (pBp!!! to their cohorts) is a four member collective from the Midwestern U.S. passionately producing a swirling, polyphonic glee. Formed in early 2005 on the wild streets of St. Louis, they delight in combining the psychedelic drive of the 60's and 70's with the new wave and DIY ethos of the 80's and 90's- conceiving a unique new sound in the process.

The pBp!!! juxtaposes time-honored rock/pop instrumentation (guitars, bass, keyboards) with washes of digital percussion, sampling and synthesis to create an imaginative echo of timeless resonance. Fronted by the well-balanced melodies of vocalist/bass guitarist Jason Hodge and vocalist Susan Muth, along with guitarist Mike "Burger" Braeuninger and Ted Spies (keys/synths/programming/vocals), pBp!!! crafts pleasant daydreams for the populace. Recording themselves in such lo-fi venues as lofts, bedrooms, and basements (with t.s. handling the production and mixing duties), their sound is as exceptional as their settings.

Less about the image than about the sound, more about the music than the trappings- the Polar Bear Project is emerging from their cave! With their traditional songwriting spiked with a heady dose of psychedelia, slip into your headphones and let their frosty-sweet synchronization wash over you.
