Sarah LaFon is a musical breath of fresh air. Her ethereal voice combines smooth pop sounds with pristinely trained vocals creating timeless music reminiscent of bygone days when true talent was touted over manufactured tunes and images.
As a child, Sarah sang in church, at local 4-H competitions, and various other talent programs. She obtained a vocal performance degree from the University of AR in 1997. Sarah had 4 years of operatic training, and honed her performance skills by performing in Master Classes, recitals, the Schola Cantorum and 5 college operas.
After college, Sarah moved to Nashville, TN. She met noted producer, Robert White Johnson and they decided to collaborate on Sarah's debut album which includes 4 songs co-written by Sarah and Johnson, several other original cuts, and a couple of classic covers. "The idea was to create music with timeless appeal, " Sarah notes. We were very focused on songs that had great melodies, and solid lyrics."

Sarah was raised in the type of family befitting of a storybook. Music has always been important to the family of seven, which includes three daughters and two sons, all of whom enjoy singing and playing piano or guitar. She confides, "When I was 6 years old it hit me as a revelation that I should be a singer when I grew up." Her musical focus then switched to instruments as her father taught her to play the piano at the age of 7, and she began 4 years of violin lessons. She was quite intent on becoming a concert violinist for a few years, then eventually realized that singing was her true love.
As a child, Sarah enjoyed singing in church, at local 4-H competitions, and various other talent programs. She was home-schooled for much of her early education, then entered a local community college at the age of 15, where she obtained their first-ever vocal scholarship. She transferred to the University of AR to finish her degree in vocal performance. While in college, Sarah began to develop her performance and song-writing skills in earnest. Her favorite subject was the unpopular "Music Theory", and her passion in this area quickly earned her the nickname of "Theory Queen". Sarah had 4 years of operatic training in college, and honed her performance skills by performing in Master Classes, recitals, and various talent contests. She was also a member of the elite choral group, the Schola Cantorum. Some of her favorite memories from this period in her life are the roles she performed in 5 college operas. She had the lead roles in Orpheus and Euridice, and, her favorite: Cinderella. Sarah confesses that she was always excited to be able to perform as a girl in an opera, as she was usually relegated to a "pants role" (as a boy). She laughingly recalls her vocal teacher telling her that mezzo-sopranos such as herself were always cast as "witches, b*****s, or in-britches!" Regardless of what gender she was representing on stage, Sarah considered this to be one of the best opportunities she could possibly have to develop her performance skills.
After living in the same house in Springdale, AR for the first 23 years of her life, Sarah finally moved to Nashville, TN to pursue a career in pop music. Through a fortuitous set of circumstances, she was able to meet noted Nashville-producer, Robert White Johnson, who has produced such legends as Lynard Skynard and whose hits include "Where Does My Heart Beat Now?" by Celine Dion. He was immediately impressed with her voice, her song-writing talents and her desire to perform quality timeless music. They decided to collaborate, and spent the next several months putting together Sarah's debut album which includes 4 songs co-written by Sarah and Johnson, several other original cuts, and a couple of classic covers. "The idea was to create music with timeless appeal, " Sarah notes. "We wanted to put music out there that would appeal to people from the age of 5 to 105, and we were very focused on songs that had great melodies, and solid lyrics. This isn't the sort of music that is trendy or flash-in-the-pan. We hope that people can enjoy it today, tomorrow, and 20 years from now." With the album completed, Sarah is currently selling them independently on her website, www.sarahlafon.com, and continues to look for performance opportunities in Nashville, with the ultimate goal being a record deal, world-wide distribution, and the chance to make many more soul-fulfilling albums.
